Prolonged outdoor exposure can cause or exacerbate common skincare issues such as dehydration, clogged pores, inflammation. Adding to this are exposure to harsh UV rays, dry wind, environmental pollutants and the resulting oxidative stress which can cause dry skin and accelerate skin aging.

Due to moderating effects of bodies of water, coastal climates have cooler temperatures. This condition can cause your skin to feel greasy while being dry at the same time. This is caused by humidity clogging your pores while lower temperatures prompt skin to decrease natural oil production, dehydrating the lower layers of your skin. Desert

Desert

Dry air in desert climates takes away moisture from your skin, a process known as trans-epidermal water loss (TEWL). Unlike more humid climates where water loss is replaced by water from humid air, the desert extracts water from the inner layer of skin (the dermis). Alpine

The higher the altitude, the less your skin maintains natural hydration. Above 2,000 feet, outer layers of your skin are unable to maintain hydration for even short periods of time. UV light intensity increases by approximately 20% for every 1,000 feet in elevation gain.
